Mathis started playing the drums & percussion when he was 10 and hasn’t stopped since.
Mathis moved to London from Paris, France to fulfill his dreams by studying music further (Bmus Hons in Popular Music Performance) with top players such as Mark Roberts (Massive Attack), Bosco D’Oliveira (Sade, Terry Callier), Tom Meadows (Kylie Minogue, Duffy), Paul Elliot and others.

Since arriving in London Mathis has been busy working as a session musician for Universal and Island records, recording in studios such as SARM West, Rollover, Island and Rak Studios as well as appearing in video clips for the likes of All Saints.

In addition to his credits he's currently drumming for many different bands including:

Ebony Bones, an Afro-Disco-Punk band whom he toured Europe with supporting Cee Lo Green. (

ArtMagic which is made up of Richard Oakes and Sean McGhee. Richard plays guitar for Suede and co-wrote several of their hits.
Sean has worked with Britney Spears, Sugababes, Robyn, Kate Havnevik, Imogen Heap and many more.

State Of Bengal (founder of the Asian Underground scene who has worked with Bjork, Massive Attack, Ananda Shankar, and also responsible for club anthems: Flight IC408 and Chittagong Chill). ( or

Badger Badger, a 7-piece percussion-heavy ensemble who are restoring the live musical experience back to its raw animalistic source. They have supported Ebony Bones, The Bays, The Orb, The Egg at many different festivals and venues (LoveBox, Secret Garden Party, Wilderness, Battersea Power Station...)

Temposhark, an electro pop rock band,They toured North America and the UK (Darren Hayes North American Support Tour, SXSW…).
They appeared on US TV (Fearless Show, Fox TV) and their songs are regularly played on MTV and various radio stations. (

He's also very active on:

- The club scene having played with many acts including: Deekline & Wizard, Specimen A (Funkatech Records), Eleonara Cutaia, Coomassie...

- The Jazz Scene having played with many jazz outfits and some great players such a Jim Mullen, Gary Crosby, Soweto Kinch and Roberto Manzin.

- The function circuit, regularly playing in various well established function bands (The BB collective, Flood the Floor…).

Mathis has played all over the world: SXSW in Texas, Roxy in LA, Nujaz Festival in Montreal, Clandestino Festival in Sweden, Brecon Jazz festival in Wales, Secret Garden Party Festival, numerous O2 Academies, Shepherd's Bush Empire, Battersea Power Station, Jazz Café, Ocean, The Hackney Empire and many more venues.

Mathis also teaches private lessons across London as well as running drumming workshops in many different styles: African, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban.
Previous clients include Museum of London, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Bloomberg, and various schools and companies across Europe.

Finally, Mathis has been influenced by many different styles of music and his playing is a perfect blend of Electro, Pop, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Hip-Hop, Jungle, Drum’n’Bass, Breakbeat, Rock, Reggae…

I've played with Mathis on many occasions and he's an excellent drummer. Extremely reliable, professionnal and confident with a great positive attitude. I highly recommend him! Cheers
